Setup a shield wall and pepper the enemy with arrows to provoke them to advance. A Sturgian shield was is really strong and can absorb a ton of ranged fire without taking losses. One note to watch out for, with Shock Troops in your infantry group sometimes the game will decide your entire infantry group need to skirmish.

Also I disagree that becoming a king in bannerlord is easier then warband, Ive played through warband and there I actualy have a kingdom, with actual lords. It was rough gettin started because I didnt have alot of troops and I was attacked 20/4/7 by my neighbors but I managed because I could actually get people on my side.

They both work. Raise the Meek gives 30 xp a day to tier 1 - 3 troops. Combat Tips gives 15 xp a day to all troops. For reference, it takes 274 xp to hit tier 2. It takes 474 xp to hit tier 3. The xp is gained when soldiers are paid but it seems hit or miss as to whether the first day counts for newly recruited/promoted soldiers.
